FBR: Non-filers Face SIM Blockage, Electricity, Gas Disconnection

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that non-filers will face disconnection of mobile SIM, electricity, and gas connections to hold them accountable. More than 250 FBR district revenue officers will handle this; they are in touch with gas, electricity, and phone companies directly to cut off the connection for those who do not pay taxes. The primary goal of the interim government is to increase the tax base throughout Pakistan.

According to the information, FBR will soon issue comprehensive guidelines for implementing these enforcement actions across the country. Additionally, district taxation officers can also write directly to cellular companies, gas companies, and DISCOs to block SIMs and cut off gas and power supplies for people who regularly evade paying their taxes.

FBR is collaborating closely with gas companies, DISCOs, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to make this happen. Under the Act, the board has the authority to issue general income tax orders against persons who do not appear on the current list of taxpayers but who are required to file returns under the provisions of the Ordinance.

The general income tax order issued includes any or all of the following for the person referred to:

  • Gas connection interruption
  • Disconnection of an electrical connection
  • Deactivate your mobile phone or mobile phone SIM.

Additionally, the Commission or Executive Board may restore or reactivate gas, power, and SIM if they notice that the taxpayer has submitted their tax return or does not meet the requirements for filing taxes under the ordinance tax systems.
