The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has announced that it has introduced a new automated system to block “lost, and snatched cell phones”.

According to the PTA, users can block their phone's International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) within 24 hours after the'After Necessary Verification' report is registered by submitting an application through the Lost and Stolen Devices System (LSDS).

The PTA wrote on Twitter that requests to block IMEI should be made to avoid "potential abuse" of mobile phones. “If you effectively register your block request, you will receive a complaint reference number,” it added.

Also, when the phone is detected, it must follow the same protocol. The user should say, “mention their complaint numbers or other essential information previously provided to block my phone.”

“When the mobile phone is unblocked, the user will receive an SMS to the registered number,” it said.
