Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed welcomed Afghanistan's participation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, media sources said.

Following the details shared, the minister said the CPEC is the country's economic lifeline. He said it would be an encouraging sign if Afghanistan has the same view of China as Pakistan.

Previously, Afghanistan had described China as its 'most important partner' in a statement and asked China to help rebuild the country and harness its rich copper reserves to eradicate widespread hunger and boost economic growth.

Taliban representative Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghanistan supports China's Belt and Road initiative. The initiative connects China to Europe, Africa and Asia through a network of railways, industrial parks, ports and roads.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid says again Pakistan's support for Afghanistan's development, success and peace. In a conversation with the press, the minister said he was confident that Afghanistan's territory would not be used against Pakistan's interests.
